Geometric Shapes

What is a Geometric Shape?

2D Shapes

    Any shape (2D, 3D, etc.)

A shape that has width and height.

           Square                     Circle                          Rectangle                               Triangle

Characteristics of a square: All sides and angles are equal, all angles are 90 degrees, four edges, parallelogram, etc.

Characteristics of a circle: Every circle has a diameter, radius, circumference, and center, every circle is round, no angles or sides, etc.

Characteristics of a rectangle:  Parallelogram, four right angles, etc.

Characteristics of a triangle: All angles measure 60 degrees, 3 edges, 3 angles, etc.

3D Shapes

Cube                       Sphere                      Cuboid (rectangular prism)                       Pyramid

A shape that has depth, width, and height.

Characteristics of a cube: Six square faces, three faces meeting at each vertex, equal angles and edge-lengths, right angles, etc.

Characteristics of a sphere: Has a diameter, radius, and circumference, has a center, spherical, etc.

Characteristics of a cuboid: Six faces, made up of six rectangles, has right angles, has height length and depth, etc.

Characteristics of a pyramid: Made up of four triangles and one square, has a base and apex, one base, etc.
